Welcome to Black Mingo Ranch, Charolais Cattle came to Black Mingo Ranch in 1969, (off spring of some of the first U.S. imports) In the 80’s The ranch had one 100 plus Charolais females of various top producing bloodlines with show quality appearance. It has been a blessing, that we chose not to chase any fads, that have been constantly occurring in the Charolais seed stock industry. Although, the ranch could support more females, we, chose to run 45-50 females, with the very best genetics possible today.

The Black Mingo Ranch herd has been a closed female herd for ten years and will remain such as long as Charolais walk the pastures. All females (with the exception of two) were born and bred here at Black Mingo Ranch.

Our own records with an enormous amount of data from these cow families has allowed us to produce  predictable animals that have the show look quality, as well as tremendous performance on our own produced forage. We strongly believe, these cattle must show their natural inherited ability while on grass, (not misrepresented by the amount of commercial feed, etc. they could consume.) Therefore we do not believe in creed feeding our calves in order to increase (inflate) their weaning weights. By not creep feeding, we can gain a much more accurate account of what the mother's true ability and capacity is. It is her responsibility as a BMR female to completely raise her calf on her own, it is therefore our responsibility to grow the grass for her!

This philosophy has allowed us to produce some of the most economically functional Charolais cattle in the breed today. It has taken an enormous amount of disciple to stay on this original track with our breading program however today, we can stand behind our product with confidence. We know that our product is very functional and makes our customers … $$$.

We have received many testimonials from many of BMR’s customers saying their bulls and females remain functional way beyond 10-15 yrs breeding programs. This is not any accident; it’s the direct result of many years of an aggressive culling program here at Black Mingo Ranch.
